The Humber Estuary is one of the most important estuaries in Europe for wildlife and is designated a European Marine Site (EMS). Humber Nature Partnership is one of 48 Local Nature Partnerships around England, established as a result of the Government Natural Environment White Paper 2011.
Humber Nature Partnership works with its members, local authorities and organisations to deliver the sustainable management of the Humber Estuary.
The Humber Estuary is internationally important for wildlife, as it contains a wide range of important habitats and species. It is designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and a Special Protection Area (SPA) under the Habitats Regulations. These designations form a European Marine Site (EMS), resulting in this area falling under both UK and European protection legislation.
HMS provides a coordinated and joined up approach for the management of the Humber Estuary.
With in-house expertise and access to other organisations, we are able to provide support for our members.
To help reach our objectives, by balancing the needs of the local community while protecting the Humber's natural environment.
Our vision is to protect and enhance the Humber Estuary’s world class environment for wildlife, people and the UK economy
Humber Nature Partnership will work in partnership with organisations, businesses, communities, stakeholders and individuals to:
Ensure an environment where wildlife thrives in healthy habitats.
Encourage the responsible growth and prosperity of ports, industry and agriculture, leading to sustainable employment around the Humber Estuary.
Ensure a high ecological status of waters, by maintaining those of good quality, improving those of lesser quality and preventing further deterioration.
Responsibly manage flood risk around the Humber Estuary for the benefit of those that live there, the economy and the environment, considering natural estuary processes and future changes that will occur.
Increase awareness and appreciation of the natural environment of the Humber.
Promote tourism and recreation for everyone to enjoy, whilst considering its protected wildlife and habitats.
The Humber Nature Forum is a regular gathering of a large range of organisations and individuals keen to support the aims of the Humber Nature Partnership. We work together to develop and implement practical measures to reduce any adverse impacts that may be occurring on the Humber European Marine Site.
Topics discussed at recent Humber Nature Forum meetings have included; Avian Tracking Technology, Fish in the Humber and The Flora of the Humber.
Further details and agendas for all of the meetings will be circulated via the Humber Nature Partnership mailing list, or follow us on Twitter/X.
Humber Nature Forum attendees are also welcome to attend meetings of the Humber Environmental Managers Network (organised by CATCH).
Humber Nature Partnership’s Directors are selected from amongst the membership and are responsible for ensuring the vision and objectives of the Humber Nature Partnership are achieved.

As a Local Nature Partnership, the environment is at the forefront of the decisions we make as an organisation. With the UK Parliament declaring an environment and climate change emergency in 2019, it is more important than ever to take even small actions to reduce our carbon footprint. As a team we are dedicated to reducing waste and our carbon footprint, both around the office and at home.
