The Living Planet Report published by the WWF has highlighted the ever growing loss of wildlife, habitats and the resulting impacts on human civilisation as we know it. These stark figures can cause despair, but a key takeaway is that swift, collective action from world leaders will allow us to reverse this decline.
At Humber Nature Partnership, we pride ourselves in working with local communities and industries to protect the habitats surround the Humber and all its inhabitants. We cannot thrive without the natural world we live in. As such we encourage you to visit the WWF website and read the full report here.
Some of the key findings of the report are as follows:
From 1970-2020 wildlife populations have decreased by 73% world wide.
Global tipping points are fast approaching, resulting in unprecedented consequences, both ecological and economical.
Global actions are falling short of the 2030 goal set previously.
We need to shift more towards green energy and change the way we think and consume to limit sea temperature rise to 1.5°C.
The report itself highlights global issues, the damage that has been done and what may be yet to come. However, by working together to integrate industry, local people and nature we can champion the sustainable use of our natural habitats, such as the Humber Estuary.
